This month we are going to discuss Microsoft To Do. This is a free task management app that makes it easy to create lists, tasks and set reminders from a smartphone, tablet and computer. Go to todo.microsoft.com and log in with a Microsoft account to get started!
Microsoft To Do Features
You can use Microsoft To Do to make any sort of lists or tasks, take notes, plan an event, or set reminders. Lists can be made for any purpose such as shopping lists, event lists, reminders, tasks, notes, and more.
At the top of your app you have the My Day function. The My Day function starts blank at the beginning of each day. You can then go through all of your many neatly organised lists and assign tasks to do that day. You can also star any really important tasks to place them into a separate file. Within this app, you can also change colour themes or add background photos.
Sub-Tasks on Microsoft To Do
In your tasks, you can also set up sub-tasks. In the app these are called steps; they allow you to add a list of sub-tasks to do under the parent task.
You can use steps in several ways (see example above). I have planned a trip to London and added steps under each day of tasks that need to be done. You can see that on day one the theatre tickets have been booked and crossed out to state the task is completed.
This feature would also be useful to control a work project were a group of people are working on one task.
Shared Tasks
The app also lets you share lists with friends, family, and co-workers. List sharing is easy and helpful if you want to share a shopping list with your partner (see opposite) or share tasks with a co-worker.
When you start a list you will see the sharing icon at the top. Click on the icon to bring up a link to invite people to share the list.
Office 365 Integration
Microsoft To Do is built on Office 365, which will allow you to integrate other Microsoft services into your To-Do app. For example, it will sync the Outlook emails that you flag making it easier to stay on top of your schedule from anywhere, across devices.
